Melinda Sheckells, Las Vegas lifestyle and entertainment expert, shares recommendations on what to try this week and what’s happening around town in the realm of dining and drinking.

This is a big week for Las Vegas restaurants as many have reopened or are preparing to do so in the coming weeks.

Here’s all the dish on what’s happening across the valley’s culinary scene.

Sushi Kame (3616 W Spring Mountain Rd. Ste. 103) is open for pickup and is one of the highest-quality Japanese restaurants in Las Vegas. They are offering to-go bento boxes of pristine, fresh fish and cooked delicacies from $12 to $35 and specialty sushi and roll platters for market price. Sushi Kame will be reopening for dine-in lunch and dinner May 24.

Johnny Church, who has been an executive chef at some of the best restaurants in Las Vegas, debuts Johnny C’s Diner (8175 Arville St.) inside the Las Vegas Motorcoach Resort. The patio opens Saturday for dine-in service. Church’s menu of coffee shop classics includes omelets and pancakes for breakfast and his crave-worthy chicken sandwich and secret-seasoned pressed burgers for lunch. On Wednesdays and Fridays he features the “Finer Diner” dinner series ($22 to $24 per person, preorder) available for curbside pickup between 4 and 5 p.m. Wednesday’s menu including a two-piece fried chicken dinner, bacon potato salad, mac and cheese, braised greens and caramel apple crumble.

The Shasta Shop is a new artisanal business born in the time of quarantine from husband and wife team Jimmy Aston and Heather Harmon. The wellness apothecary proffers specialty products derived from Mother Earth direct to you.

The dried eggplant and dried mango snacks are out-of-this-world tasty and the Magical Matcha is pure vibrant deliciousness. To ignite the palate, try a Soul Fire ginger shot. The Shasta Shop is available weekends at the Downtown 3rd Farmers Market on Casino Center Blvd.

AREA15, an art experience opening in Las Vegas later this year, has partnered with Vampire.Pizza on a new immersive pop-up home-dining concept, which brings a mystery game and dinner to your door, delivered by a vampire. Players who order Vampire.Pizza + AREA15 receive pizza, salad and dessert from Those Guys Pies, and a game kit with an immersive story and 60-to-90-minute mystery game.

Vampire.Pizza is available until May 15 and the experience is $32.99/person for two people or $27.99/per person for four people. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Three Square, Southern Nevada.
