WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Not all Kansas restaurants jumped at the opportunity to re-open their dining rooms today. Some are choosing to hold off, including the Old Mill Tasty Shop.

In their 88 years of being open, their owner, Don Wright tells us this is their most difficult chapter yet. Like many other restaurants in the county, they had to lay off all of their servers when the pandemic hit. So as Governor Kelly gave them the green light to open their doors today, Wright decided to wait.

He says it just didn’t make sense for them yet, having such a small, intimate space.

"For us personally when the cases start easing down the hill and knowing that our people are safe, our customers are safe, and when we can put more people together in a space, then it makes more sense for restaurants that are in tight confines like us," says Wright.

No re-open date is set in stone, but they are hoping it’ll happen during phase two. In the mean time, curbside service is still available.
