York Region Food Network's (YRFN) virtual fundraiser, The Charitable Chef, is offering a fun and delicious outdoors experience this summer with its Summer Kit Series.
The Summer Kit Series provides meal kits for one with proceeds supporting The Charitable Chef, which supports YRFN's food security programs.
"This summer we are taking the Charitable Chef outdoors to backyards, decks and parks. We’ve all been cooped up spending a lot of time in front of our screens and we’re looking forward to some much needed outdoor time," said Kate Greavette, executive director of York Region Food Network.
"Our kits are a perfect way to reconnect with family and friends in small outdoor gatherings. (It's) a delicious meal experience where all proceeds raised from this fundraiser will support YRFN’s essential food security programs,’ said Greavette.
The meal kits, which are made by YRFN, will spoil your tastebuds with a seasonal preserve, appetizer, main course and dessert, the organization said.
The June meal kit includes a cheese and charcuterie board, paired with a homemade chutney. The main dish will be asparagus-smoked cheddar quiche in a flaky pastry, served with local mixed greens topped with freshly harvested strawberries and spiced pecans. To wrap it up, dessert will be a summer classic — pavlova topped with strawberries. Beverages and preserve add-ons are available to accompany your meal.
Here's how it works:
• Purchase a ticket ($40 to $50 provides a full meal kit for one);
• Select your pickup date from YRFN in Aurora. Pickup dates for the Summer Starter Picnic Kit are June 22 to 24. Pickup dates for the Summer Grilling Kit are July 20 to 22. Pickup dates for the plant-based Reap the Harvest Kit are Aug. 24 to 26.
• Find your spot outdoors to enjoy the meals.
