Rich, chocolatey goodness. Sweet, melt-in-your-mouth dough. Perhaps a savory, cheesy bite.
Yes, those flavors are in two locations in Grant County: Ephrata and Quincy.
If you’re up for exploring the Quincy Public Market, which has many interesting finds by local business owners, don’t overlook Cielo Town Bakery, which is the second shop opened by Sam and Alma Montoya, after the couple’s success with their Ephrata bakery by the same name.
I’ve only sampled a few of the delectable treats, including an eclair and most recently an upside-down chocolate cupcake with cream cheese filling, and an appearance somewhat resembling a Ding Dong. I say somewhat because you can clearly see the pastry is so much more fresh and has just the right amount of frosting – a light, chocolate glaze, with a tad of vanilla. One bite reveals a slightly gooey center, with a touch of cream cheese filling.
The bakeries feature a plethora of other sweets and savories, too, but this chocolate confection was my most recent try and I’m a huge fan of chocolate. They also offer custom-made cakes and other made-to-order treats.
Fun fact: It’s been said Sam Montoya had bakeries in Hollywood and catered for some big-name types before moving to Washington.
Cielo Town Bakery in Quincy: 1004 F St. SW No. 9. In Ephrata: 11 Basin St. NW. Phone number: 509-797-1166.
