As the weather turns warmer and more people become comfortable getting together, it’s a great time to plan an outdoor party.
Here are six ideas for your next gathering, with tasty suggestions for what to serve:
Movie Night: Set up the projector, place out some comfy seating and have individual boxes of movie candy ready. For something fancy, put out bowls of truffled popcorn: toss your popped popcorn with melted butter and season with truffle salt instead of table salt.
Backyard barbecue: Whether serving smoked brisket, chicken and ribs or shish kebobs, serve your barbecue with a smoky potato salad, sprinkled with smoked paprika.
Picnic brunch: Lay out the blankets, make a pitcher of mint lemonade and serve deviled eggs, muffins, croissants with ham and cheese, and fresh fruit.
Game night: Set up outdoor games like cornhole, croquet and horseshoes. You’ll please kids and adults with hamburgers, hot dogs and marinated grilled mushroom “burgers”: marinate portabello mushroom caps in balsamic dressing for 20-30 minutes before grilling until tender.
Happy hour: Set out individual hors d’oeuvres and chilled bottles of wine and beer for a relaxed get-together with friends. Keep a cooler filled with chilled club soda and slice a few limes for white wine spritzers (three parts wine to one part soda).
Poker night: We’re betting that individual sandwiches and a few of our no-fuss cocktails with three ingredients or less make poker night a hit.
