Get Hot Tamales at Tamales Guadalajara
Start your day off with breakfast at Tamales Guadalajara. Originating from California, Maria De La Paz opened Tamales Guadalajara in Tolleson in 2017.  Find pictures of famous Mexican figures and images of Jalisco, Mexico lining the walls and popular Mexican dishes like red and green chilaquiles populating the menu. “We serve authentic Mexican food from my mother’s recipes, who is originally from Jalisco,” De La Paz says. “What makes us unique and special is that a majority of our dishes are made to order. We use fresh ingredients to always maintain the authentic flavor.”

Let’s Taco ’Bout CaliTacos
CaliTacos, known for its melt-in-your mouth Mexican munchies and boozy beverages, started as a catering company and food truck. Its new brick and mortar in Tolleson is the spot for trying delicious street tacos. The energetic space vibrates with loud Latin music and is decorated with pictures of all the people who have supported CaliTacos from the beginning. The most popular menu item is the queso taco, which features melted cheese on one side of a fresh tortilla and your choice of meat. CaliTacos’ delicious birria can be incorporated into burritos, nachos, or even on a queso taco. Don’t forget to order one of the house specialties – a Michelada with your choice of beer.

Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth at Frutilandia
Grab dessert and authentic Mexican antojitos (snacks) at Frutilandia. The franchise started in 2006 in Mesa and aimed to be known as “the Mexican Starbucks.” It now has five Valley locations. Lively music paired with comfortable seating areas invite guests to linger. Frutilandia’s menu is displayed on TV screens above a case of cream and paletas and an open kitchen allows customers to see their antojitos being prepared. The fresas con crema (strawberries with cream) is a bestseller, as is the mangonada, blended mango with ice, topped with Chamoy sauce, Tajin, fresh diced mango and a tamarind candy stick. Carmen Perez, owner of Frutilandia number five, mentions that they use the best quality ingredients and provide a family-friendly ambiance to make sure their customers have somewhere to go and feel at home.

Grab a Hot Dog at La Yaquesita
Owners Erika and Juan Gerardo wanted to start a family-oriented business with their kids, so they started La Yaquesita in 2019, and have since taken West Phoenix by storm. The bright red food truck and smell of fresh, made-to-order hot dogs drives droves of hungry patrons to grab a late-night bite at this famous food truck. Some of the most popular hot dogs are the Chile-Dog, a green roasted chile stuffed with mozzarella cheese and a hot dog wrapped in bacon, the Hawaiian-Dog which has mozzarella cheese, pineapple, ham, sweet and sour sauce, grilled onions, pineapple mayo, and jalapeno sauce, and El Charro-Dog, which is a bacon-wrapped hot dog with onions, beans, jalapeno sauce, chorizo, grilled onions and mozzarella cheese. Keto options and substitutions are also available. “One of the things that makes our food truck unique is that our bread is custom-made, it’s baked daily,” Erika says. “We have a lot of items they can add to the hot dogs, but we always cater to the clients. It’s also very family-oriented; you can come at night and see families open their trunks and sit down to eat.”
