Yummy Bakery and Jamaica Producers (JP) were announced as club sponsors of Jamaica's top-tier football competition, the National Premier League, but the search for a title sponsor continues.

The league is without a sponsor after Red Stripe did not renew its sponsorship after its deal expired following the 2019-2020 season. The season, however, was cancelled and declared null and void by the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) in May as part of efforts to help and contain the coronavirus pandemic.

Chairman of the newly formed Professional Football Jamaica Limited (PFJL) Chris Williams announced the sponsorships during a press conference on Thursday at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel in Kingston.

The newly incorporated PFJL, which replaced the Premier League Clubs Association (PLCA) at the end of the last Premier League season, is seeing to get the new season underway in early 2021.

Williams said the PFJL is seeking to secure $100 million in club sponsorships. He did not disclose the financial details of the deal with Yummy Bakery and JP. However, he said this was just the first of many announcements to come over the next week.

"I am happy to have Yummy and Jamaica Producers on board to throw their support behind Jamaica’s football," said Williams.

"Both companies recognise the tremendous value that a successful Jamaica Premier League season will bring in securing income for a vulnerable grouping and much-needed entertainment for Jamaicans at home and in the diaspora," he continued.

Alex Hendrickson, chief operations manager of Yummy Bakery was happy to be apart of the process supporting football across Jamaica.

"We have decided to support the Jamaica Premier League as a Jamaican-born company, to help develop our national teams and players. It's a part of who we are as a company. We look forward to an early start in 2021 and a safe and successful season," he stated.

Meanwhile, Jamaica Producers’ chief commercial director, Maya Johnston, said the St Mary’s brand is perfectly aligned with the Premier League.

"We took this decision because JP has been around since 1929 as Jamaica's snack of choice and the Premier League is part of the fabric of what Jamaica enjoys. We want to be a part of delivering fun and entertainment and we are delighted to bring on some fun to Jamaica in the next year.”

Broadcast plans are also being finalised for the season, which is expected to run for 20 consecutive weeks at a designated location.
