We know that he and his sister Anna have been planning a new hybrid incarnation of the two restaurants with elements of both IM’s simple but wonderful Thai cuisine and the playful attitude of blvd. But progress has been understandably slow during the ongoing pandemic.

Arnold has spent much of the intervening time living on the West Coast working on various video and print projects, some of which will be shared at future opportunities once details are more concrete. If you track him on Instagram, Facebook or at his own chef website, you know that he’s a really entertaining follow, sharing recipes, personal photos, recollections of his family and instructional videos. Myint has also stayed busy cooking weekly meals for Nashville Launch Pad, a woefully unappreciated initiative that works to provide shelter and support for LGBTQ youth.

Methinks there’s a cookbook coming from Arnold, seeing as how he’s been spending so much time re-creating and reimagining recipes from his family, particularly from the beloved matriarch of the family Patti Myint. It’s been fun following along as Arnold learns secrets from the ladies who cooked in the kitchen of International Market for years, and I’ll be first in line to buy a copy of whatever book comes out of his culinary explorations!

In the meantime, if you’re looking for something educational and outlandishly entertaining to watch after you’ve completed the entire Netflix library over the Christmas holidays, may I point you to the video collection on his website. The food website Tasty challenged Arnold to cook an entire Thanksgiving meal for one in a tiny air fryer, and while he was as much of a skeptic of the gadget as I am (since I already have a convection oven and don’t need a glorified popcorn popper), he took up the challenge with gusto and humor. Once I watched that one, I headed down the Myint rabbit hole of videos and now look forward impatiently for each next one to publish. You might even catch his alter-ego Suzy Wong making an appearance or two!
