(April 22, 2021) Most of us are familiar with the optimistic phrase, “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.”
Every April, when our island’s landscape is awash in blooming daffodils, however, my culinary mind cannot help but be consumed by cooking with lemons and using them to make far more than a pitcher of lemonade.
Not only do lemons mirror the sunny yellow color of the most common daffodils, their alluring citrus tang always seems to taste like spring in savory and sweet recipes alike.
While it is disappointing to have Nantucket’s annual celebratory daffodil parades and picnics COVID-canceled for the second year in a row, attitudes this year are not only more accepting but also more positive with many planning what is being dubbed a D.Y.O.D. (Do-Your-Own-Daffy) private affair.
