New York – A Great Taste Award is on its way from PETA to The Halal Guys (based in Queens) for its groundbreaking new Meatless Gyro consisting of vegan “meat” slabs, veggies, spices, and dairy-free tzatziki sauce tucked into a warm pita and available with a side of creamy eggplant hummus.
“The Halal Guys is saving animals, satisfying customers, and making history as the first major fast-food chain to offer a vegan gyro,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA is recognizing this gyro genius for jumping onboard the vegan revolution.”
Each person who goes vegan saves nearly 200 animals every year; reduces their risk of suffering from cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and obesity; dramatically shrinks their carbon footprint; and helps prevent future epidemics and pandemics. SARS, swine flu, bird flu, and COVID-19 all stemmed from confining and killing animals for food.
The Halal Guys joins a long list of business-savvy fast-food companies—including Del Taco, Burger King, Dunkin’, Chipotle, Carl’s Jr., and White Castle—that have embraced delicious vegan meals.
The Halal Guys will receive an award letter and a framed certificate.
