Lassi is a flavoured drink made with curd. The regional name for it is buttermilk. Adored by people across India, it is a healthy drink especially for summers. Lassi is a blend of yogurt with water, spices, and sometimes fruits. Namkeen lassi is a blend of salt and spices so it tastes savoury and when it’s blended with fruits and sugar, it tastes sweet and is referred to as sweet lassi. Salted/namkeen lassi is also referred to as chaas, but is a diluted/thinner version of it.

The sweet versions has many varieties like Mango lassi, Kesar lassi, dry fruit lassi, etc. Dates and oats lassi is another lip-smacking combo. Dates add natural sweetness, while oats are incredibly nutritious and rich in antioxidants. Yogurt is high in protein and helps maintain digestive health. So, the combination of dates, oats, and yogurt makes a healthy, high-protein, drink to boost energy levels. It is a cooling and yummy drink to counterbalance the heat.

Preparation time: 30 minutes
Cooking time: 30 minutes
Total time: 60 minutes/ 1 hour

Ingredients:

* Curd/ Yogurt 1 cup
* Milk – 1 cup
* Oats – 1 cup
* Dates – 1 cup
* Ice cubes

Method

* Take a cup of oats and a cup of dates.
* Dates will be the source of sweetness for the recipe and therefore sugar is not required.
* Add a cup of oats to a bowl, add a cup of milk to it and let it soak for 10 minutes.
* Meanwhile, de-seed the dates and chop them into fine and thin pieces.
* Add 3-4 cardamoms, to enhance the taste.
* Add the soaked oats along with milk to a blender.
* Also, add chopped dates, cardamom and grind it into a fine paste.
* Add ice cubes along with 1 cup of curd and blend it.
* Sugar can be added for better sweetness.
* Alternatively, honey or jaggery can be used instead of sugar.
* Pour the lip-smacking lassi into a serving glass and garnish with honey and dry fruits and relish the refreshing drink.
