Fantasy Football: 5 Major sleepers with tasty Week 2 matchups - NFL Spin Zone

Five fantasy football sleepers that you should consider for your Week 2 fantasy lineup.

Week 1 of the NFL season is officially in the books, and with every week of football comes many mixed reactions from fantasy football managers. This week was no exception as we saw the emergence of players like Josh Jacobs and Calvin Ridley but also lackluster performances from proven studs such as Nick Chubb and Michael Thomas.

This week also saw some injuries, with running back Marlon Mack and tight end Blake Jarwin both suffering season-ending injuries. Kenny Golladay and Miles Sanders were also surprising last-minute scratches from their team lineups due to injury.

All this considered, many fantasy managers may be looking at a subpar lineup going into Week 2. Whether this is the case or you are just looking for a sneaky DFS play, here are 5 players that can make a splash in your Week 2 lineup.

Fantasy football sleeper No. 5: QB Jared Goff, Los Angeles (vs. Philadelphia)

Goff put up a weak fantasy outing in Week 1, throwing for 275 yards and an interception en route to a QB29 finish. However, Goff’s performance was not as bad as the stat line suggests as the Rams’ only two touchdowns were easy scores from right outside the goal line and his interception should have been negated on a missed call by the referees.

In Week 2, Goff gets to face the Philadelphia Eagles, who allowed Washington to put up 27 points in the season opener. Look for Goff to bounce back in Week 2 with a QB1 performance.

Fantasy football sleeper No. 4: WR Russell Gage, Atlanta (vs. Dallas)

Gage had one of the more surprising Week 1 performances, finishing with 114 yards on nine receptions. More importantly, Gage did this all while teammates Calvin Ridley and Julio Jones put up WR1 performances, showing that he can still perform even as the Falcon’s WR3.

Week 2 should bring a shootout against the Cowboys and Matt Ryan will likely attempt 45+ passes, making Gage a high-floor start with the potential of a touchdown.

Fantasy football sleeper No. 3: WR Kendrick Bourne, San Fransisco (vs. New York)

Bourne looked poised for a solid Week 1 performance with teammates Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk both injured but only caught two receptions for 34 yards on five targets. However, he could be poised for a bounce-back performance if he remains the WR1 for the Niners in Week 2.

With Jimmy Garoppolo coming off a lackluster Week 1, the Niners will likely try to get him cooking against a pitiful Jets defense that allowed Josh Allen to throw for 312 yards in Week 1. Look for Bourne to post a solid receiving line with a good chance of a touchdown, making him an appealing streamer for Week 2.

Fantasy football sleeper No. 2: RB Ronald Jones II, Tampa Bay (vs. Carolina)

Ronald Jones saw 19 total touches in Week 1 against the Saints and was able to turn them into 82 yards. If he sees a similar workload in Week 2, he should be able to put up a solid fantasy performance against a Panthers defense that let Josh Jacobs have his way with them.

He out-touched Leonard Fournette 19 to 6, and as the Brady-led Buccaneers slowly come together, look for Jones to put together some strong fantasy performances as the teams RB1, with Week 2 likely being one of them.

Fantasy football sleeper No. 1: TE Dallas Goedert, Philadelphia (vs. Jacksonville)

Goedert erupted for 101 yards and a touchdown on eight receptions, which was enough to finish as the TE1 in Week 1. More importantly, he was targeted more frequently than fellow tight end Zach Ertz, finishing with nine receptions to Ertz’s seven.

Even though we have seen these types of games from Goedert before and there is no reason to think he will continue to outscore Ertz, he should still see a steady amount of targets until their wide receiver situation improves. Look for him to put up another top ten performance in Week 2 against a severely understaffed Jacksonville defense.
