Local Eats: Tasty Michigan restaurants to visit now - mlive.com

Michigan restaurants are still struggling, not only with the guidelines to open safely with Covid-19 restrictions, but with customers who have issues with wearing masks.

“Customers are still being (difficult) about masks, but we’re still here and trying to grow this place,” said Greg Redman of Water Tower Sports Pub in Lexington, a Top 10 finisher for Best Pizza and Best Fries.

For others it hasn’t been so bad.

Joe Bell of The Peanut Barrel in East Lansing said people have been, for the most part, very cooperative about the masks, even though it got off to a rocky start. He said at first “we weren’t as tough about it as we are now.”

He’s thankful for those who are understanding.

“We say ‘thanks.' Because it’s hard. We‘re in the hospitality business and the first thing you have to do is lay down the law,” he said.

After Governor Whitmer’s recent order for bars to close indoor service, many customers were confused as to what restaurants and bars were included.

“Here at the Peanut Barrel, we are restricted to 75 total seats, both indoor and out,” Bell posted on Facebook. “BUT, we are able to continue service inside and out as we easily meet the requirements of less than 70% of our total sales in alcoholic beverages. So... let’s continue to play safe, wash our hands, social distance and WEAR OUR MASKS.”

The Peanut Barrel was a finalist for Best Neighborhood Bar and Best Fries.

Whether it’s The Peanut Barrel or Water Tower Sports Pub, there are so many great restaurants throughout Michigan, doing the right things and waiting to serve you.
