The famed Portland restaurnt group Toro Bravo Inc. is going out of business — maybe.
The Oregonian/OregonLive reports that the group, which includes Toro Bravo, Tasty n Alder, Tasty n Daughters and the event space Plaza del Toro, is closing.
The next day, however, Willamette Week offered up a different narrative — saying that lay-offs were coming and some take-out and delivery services would be suspended. But the closures may not be permanent, the alt-weekly said.
Chef and founder John Gorham already had divested himself from the group after being shamed for his verbal attack on a trans woman of color on Facebook.
The issue began as a discussion in May about who was tagging the company's trucks in Southeast Portland. It descended into a verbal battle with demands for cash donations.
Other restaurants in the group include Mediterranean Exploration Company, Shalom Y'all, Bless Your Heart, Y'alla and Mama Sesame.
The Oregonian/OregonLive reported Gorham's wife, Rene, took over the group last week in the wake of Gorham's flameout, but on Wednesday July 1, she told the remaining staff that Toro Bravo Inc. was done.
Gorham apologized publicly and has sought help for clinical depression.
