MARYLAND — This summer, embark upon a tasty journey along Maryland's Best Ice Cream Trail, which is now in its 10th year. The 2022 Maryland's Best Ice Cream Trail features 10 on-farm creameries that produce and sell their ice cream directly to consumers and stretches more than 290 miles from Washington County to Worcester County, according to a news release.
Maryland's Best Ice Cream Trail's 2022 season officially began May 28 and runs until Sept. 30. The trail promotes public understanding of dairy farming and highlights the contributions of the state's 325 dairy farms, which according to the USDA's 2017 Census of Agriculture, accounted for more than $174 million in sales in 2017.
For the 2022 season, participants are asked to collect a photo or selfie at each of the 10 creameries. The photo should identify the creamery at which it is taken. Once you have collected all of your photos, submit them with your name and contact information via email to icecream.trail1@maryland.gov.
All completed submissions will be placed into a drawing for the title of 2022 Maryland's Best Ice Cream Champion Trailblazer. The champion will receive a $50 gift certificate to the creamery of their choice, a copy of the children's book "Tales of the Dairy Godmother: Chuck's Ice Cream Wish" and the 2022 Maryland's Best Ice Cream Champion Trailblazer trophy.
