Since the Claw Down’s debut in 2012 at the Opera House, it’s been love at first lobster bite for both judges and spectators. This year’s Claw Down is Wednesday, June 16 at 6 p.m. at Bristol Marine/The Shipyard at Boothbay Harbor.
General admission tickets are $80 pp; VIP: $110. Tickets are available at Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce, 192 Townsend Ave. and at www.boothbayharbor.com
Past winners: 2018, Dana Moos (also People’s Choice); 2017, Nathaniel Adam, Boothbay Harbor Country Club; 2016, Chef Delroy Bennett of the former Rocktide Inn; 2015, Chef Nicholas Krunkkala of The Thistle Inn (also People’s Choice); 2014, Rocktide Inn Executive Chef Dwayne Whitelocke (also People’s Choice); 2013, Chef Mike Ham of Tugboat Inn; and 2012, Chef Micah Jones of Brown's Wharf Inn. Claw Down was canceled in 2019.
Ingredients in Moos’ 2018 winning bite: lobster meat, wonton crisp, kewpie aioli, smoked butter, charred scallions and truffle oil, with a soy glaze; in 2017, Adams’ winner had a bite of sweet corn and candied thyme brown butter emulsion, butter-poached lobster, tarragon seafoam, sea salt tuile, and red tobiko. And, in 2012, the first ever bite by Jones was of fresh lobster served over a sun-dried tomato and polenta cake, finished with lobster sauce and truffle oil.
Bristol Marine/The Shipyard at Boothbay Harbor is at 120 Commercial St., just past Tugboat Inn and near Dunton’s Doghouse.
