Desperately craving French fries but also trying to be (somewhat) healthy? We’ve all been there—and so have Alex and Mauricio!
Ree Drummond's youngest daughter and new son-in-law took to Instagram recently to share one of their favorite weeknight meals: burgers and fries. It’s a team effort in the kitchen for the newlywed couple, with Mauricio firing up the grill for the burgers and Alex taking on fry duty.
"Last time I made these, I got a lot of DMs asking for the recipe," Alex said. "So I decided to invite you guys in on this journey with me as I make mine and Mauricio’s sweet potato fries."
But these are not your average deep-fried taters. Don’t worry—they’re still crispy and delicious, but this sweet potato recipe is cooked in the ever-popular air fryer. It’s a staple recipe in the Scott household because, according to Alex, "they're healthy and easy!"
And she's right! Air fryer recipes are a miraculous thing. The air fryer is one of those kitchen gadgets that gets dinner on the table super fast and without much fuss. In less than 20 minutes, you’ll have deliciously crisp sweet potato fries that are ready for dipping.
In fact, with an air fryer, you can make all of your favorite fried snacks—from wings and other air fryer chicken recipes to onion rings and crispy buffalo cauliflower bites—without ever heating up a pot of oil. So how exactly did Alex make her popular air fryer sweet potato fries? The recipe couldn’t have been easier:
1. Cut your sweet potatoes into thin, "fry-shape"strips.
2. Toss the sweet potatoes with a little bit of olive oil, seasoned salt, and black pepper.
3. Dump the fries into the air fryer basket, give them a shake, and pop them in the air fryer for 10 minutes at 375 degrees.
4. After 10 minutes, take the fries out and give them a toss. Then, return them to the air fryer for 5 more minutes.
5. Transfer to a bowl and sprinkle with seasoned salt.
Before you dig in, make sure to give the fries a dash of seasoned salt, like the ready-made version by Lawry’s. (It’s so good!) Then, pick your favorite dipping sauce. For Mauricio, that means ketchup with a generous pinch of black pepper. Fun fact about Alex: The only condiment in the world that she likes is Ranch dressing!
The best part about sweet potato fries is that they go with so many things—from breakfast eggs to sandwiches to chicken dinners. Of course, if you’re anything like Alex and Mauricio, you’ll pair them with your favorite burger recipe. (A double patty on a bun with lettuce, onions, pickles, mayo, and mustard for Mauricio and a lettuce wrapped burger with pepper jack cheese for Alex.)
No matter how you serve them, dip them, or eat them, you can’t go wrong with these yummy sweet potato fries. Don’t have an air fryer? Try Ree's recipe for a tasty oven-baked version!
