The menu at The Social in New London is an ongoing and successful exercise in creativity reflecting modern trends and ideas. This week, they share an excellent and simple twist on a turkey burger — and, yes, the "Put a Bird On It" is a reference to the television show "Portlandia."
"Put A Bird On It" from The Social
Ingredients (for one burger)
Bulkie or hard roll (we suggest multigrain)
6-8 oz. ground turkey
1.5 oz nappa cabbage
.5 oz diced jalapenos
.25 oz shredded red cabbage
.25 oz shredded carrots
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
pinch white sugar
Directions
First, make your jalapeno slaw:
Add diced jalapenos, nappa cabbage, red cabbage and shredded carrots to a mixing bowl, marinate mixture in 1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar and a pinch of white sugar. Marinate for 20-30 minutes.
Then the burger:
In a mixing bowl, add salt and pepper to desired amount of ground turkey, mix together and patty
(If you're feeling froggy: add chopped spinach to the mix)
Lightly oil pan and cook turkey burger on medium heat.
Build:
Lightly grill the bulkie roll, remove from heat & top bottom bun with a small bed of baby spinach and red onion. Place burger and top with jalapeno slaw.
