The Beach Haven Public Library announces a three-part series, “Making Memories With Millie: Vintage Desserts and Great Books,” on Fridays, Jan. 19, Feb. 9 and March 1. All sessions are at 2 p.m.; class size is limited to 15.
“‘Making Memories with Millie’ is an interactive presentation designed for adults who would like to share highly engaging, ‘at-home’ learning experiences with children,” said Jane DeHaven, library director. Designed primarily for grandparents wishing to create memories with their grandchildren, this presentation can be of value to parents, educators and child care providers.
DeHaven said classes focus upon the paring of vintage desserts with literature written for children of all ages, including adults. Each class will feature one vintage dessert, which will be sampled by all.
“The origin and historical significance of the featured vintage dessert will be discussed and its recipe shared,” she said. “Next, contextually related, age-appropriate literature will be shared and made available for borrowing. Lastly, participants will discuss how the dessert and related books can be used in their homes to create memories that last a lifetime.”
The presenter, Millicent Lore, is a lifelong educator, published author and conference presenter. A graduate of Penn State University, Gwynedd Mercy University and St. Joseph’s University, she taught professionally for 43 years prior to retiring to Long Beach Island.
“During her career, Millie taught children and adults of all ages, ranging from pre-school to graduate school students,” said DeHaven. “She is known professionally for her work with children who struggle learning to read and/or to perform mathematics and is highly regarded by her peers for her leadership.”
