When Brad A. Johnson wrote about Henry’s at the Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort in Huntington Beach in 2019 after it opened, he said it was the most ambitious restaurant in the city in years.
Now, the address is the same, but with a new chef, the restaurant has been dubbed Henry’s Coastal Cuisine, but with a menu that puts interesting twists on some classic dishes.
Eat of the Moment
Incredible injera
When it comes to Ethiopian cuisine, the injera can make or break a meal, Brad writes. And at Ethiopian/Eritrean restaurant Beteseb in Anaheim, he’s found a delicious example of the unique bread.
James Beard semifinalist in OC
Carlos Salgado, chef/owner of Taco María, was named a 2019 finalist in the Best Chef West category by the James Beard Foundation, an accolade he’s received in previous years, beginning in 2016. Now the foundation has announced he’s a semifinalist in the Best Chef California category, among other chefs in Southern California.
The scoop on Handel’s
Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream & Yogurt has been expanding in OC with locations already open in Newport Beach, Lake Forest, Laguna Niguel and Rancho Santa Margarita. The company has added a fifth scoop shop, coming to Irvine at The Market Place.
Deals on dalgona
If you love whipped coffee drinks and Asian-style pastries and baked goods, mark your calendar for the grand opening of Sunmerry Bakery Café in Garden Grove. There will be deals for the eatery’s grand opening March 5-6. Anne Valdespino has more.
From the sea
It’s officially Lent and that means fast food chains are adding seafood to their menus. Here are some of the things you’ll find this year, from fish sandwiches to shrimp tacos.
With more rain and cooler temperatures in the forecast, try out this elevated version of French onion soup from Cathy Thomas. It includes mushrooms, goat cheese and maybe some cognac.
