With life throwing us surprises every minute, it's hard to know whether Dallas restaurants and bars will be open this week or closed the next. But that is not stopping them. They're reopening, introducing new dishes, doing the best they can.

Here's what's happening in Dallas dining news this week:

Freebirds has reopened for dine-in, with a to-go menu as well that includes burritos, bowls, nachos, salads, quesadillas and Family Meal Kits such as the Freebirds Taco Kit or Nacho Kit. Order at freebirds.com or via the Freebirds app.

Mimi’s Pizzeria, located off of Northwest Highway, is now offering do-it-yourself pizza kits, perfect for kids or a hands-on date night. They start at $9 and come with all ingredients needed to make a 14-inch pizza including dough, sauce, cheese and toppings. Pizza Kits are available for delivery, for an additional $2 delivery fee, or for pick up.

Maple Leaf Diner, the diner offering Canadian classics like poutine has reopened for curbside pickup and dine-in with limited capacity. They also offer cocktail kits to-go for patrons to get their brunch cocktail fix at home.

Smokey John's Bar-B-Que is releasing a limited-edition Shoebox Lunch available through July 4. For $12.50, each box contains sandwich from choice of of ham, turkey, chicken, sausage, or for $3 extra, brisket, with two sides and a cookie.

The Biscuit Bar has new pulled pork tater tots with pulled pork, coleslaw, and BBQ sauce. Also a Watermelon Rancher cocktail with Western Son Watermelon Vodka, Sweet n Sour, and Lemon Berry Acai.

Terry Black's Barbecue, the Texas barbecue restaurant, has partnered with five Dallas-area Tom Thumbs to sell smoked meats including smoked sausage, jalapeño-cheddar sausage, smoked turkey for $40, smoked beef rib, brisket, rack of pork Ribs, and chopped brisket, $20 per pound.

Garden Cafe in East Dallas is still closed, but has decided to apply for a rezoning so they can sell beer and wine - no liquor, no late night, just a glass of wine with dinner or a mimosa with Sunday brunch in the garden.

Starbucks has two new cold-coffee beverages and a breakfast sandwich for the summer, all with a plant-based emphasis. The Impossible Breakfast Sandwich on ciabatta bread is made with Impossible Sausage; alas, it is topped with cheddar cheese and a fried egg. But less animal is in the right direction. The two drinks are Cold Brew with Cinnamon Almondmilk Foam, Cold Brew with Dark Cocoa Almondmilk Foam, and are an expansion of Starbucks' popular Cold Foam platform. Cold Brew with Cinnamon Almondmilk Foam features Starbucks Cold Brew topped with cinnamon, vanilla, and almondmilk cold foam. Cold Brew with Dark Cocoa Almondmilk Foam starts with Starbucks Cold Brew topped with mocha sauce, cocoa powder and almondmilk cold foam.

Eco-Products has a new line of fiber plates and containers made from sugarcane that's now available nationwide. It uses propriety compounds to resist grease without the use of conventional chemistry, known as PFAS. The compostable plates, bowls, and clamshells can be ordered at ecoproducts.com.
