The Thanksgiving Day turkey was as tasty as last week’s college football games. Heck, I’ll even toss in the Lions Thanksgiving Day game as being exciting and tasty as they didn’t get the stuffing beat out of them.
I think I want to get the Detroit “I Can’t Manage a Clock” game out of my huge gut first. I headed down I-94 driving to Ford Field not wanting to witness a Buffalo massacre of the Lions. I can positively say the Lions went football to football with a premier team in the Buffalo Bills. (I still think Buffalo wins the Super Bowl on a side note.)
However, I once again point my finger (the bad one) at the coaching staff and in particular head coach Dan “Soup for Brains” Campbell. Who in their right mind throws a long pass on third and one with half a minute left in the game? I say, throw it short and move chains and make a field goal closer if you want to pass it. The other smarter move is to run it and kill the clock and kick a field goal and overtime! Why would you leave Josh Allen any ticks on the clock to manufacture a game-winning field goal? The answer is: you DON’T!!
The great quarterbacks in the NFL will toast you and Josh did just that. I would love to ask Dan Campbell: “How many football games are the Lions going to lose because of your stupid @#$ game management decisions?” If I hear him one more time say “that loss is on me” I am going to puke! He has no skill level when it comes to winning a game at the end of an NFL football game. The bottomline in this business is winning NFL games and not being oh-so-close every week.
The other annoying thing is Jared Goff. Jared can make tough throws yet seemingly misses super easy throws that are so critical to make in a football game. Jared Goff misses the simple chain-moving throws that are huge between winning and losing in an NFL game. The problem is we focus on the fourth quarter and not all the previous quarters where his mistakes happened.
I love the effort of the Lions, and I see growth on the football field. I, like most who have followed the Motor City Kitties, want to see Ws, not moral victories. It’s so tough watching these bone-headed decisions every week.
The Michigan Wolverines traveled to Columbus, Ohio and smacked down the Ohio State “Yuckeyes” 45-23. The victory was oh so sweet as Michigan was minus Blake Corum, their stud running back. I did not have much faith in Michigan winning, I will admit that.
The Wolverine offense beat Ohio State by throwing the football early and running it late.
The passing in the first half — as they say — set up the run in the second half. The play of J J McCarthy was tremendous and so was Donovan Edwards running the football in the fourth quarter.
The Michigan defense was stout, especially after OSU went right down and scored on their opening possession of the game. The Wolverines have defeated Ohio State two consecutive years, and it was the first Michigan win in Columbus since 2000. I ask, is the rivalry between Michigan and Ohio State turning into Michigan’s favor? I do believe Jimmy Harbaugh and Michigan are in the head of OSU head coach Ryan Day.
The Big Ten Championship game is Saturday night in Indianapolis at 8 p.m. on Fox. The Wolverines will face a 8-4 Purdue Boilermaker football team. I like Michigan to win by a couple of touchdowns.
The college playoffs as it stands right now: 1. Georgia 2. Michigan 3. TCU 4. Sothern California. I hope these are the four teams who win on Saturday. I don’t want “Bama” or the “Yucks” to climb into the playoffs.
