FLINT TWP., MI - While there are plenty of burger options in the Flint-area, Twisted Burger Diner has become one of the more popular choices for people.
Located at 3142 Miller Road in Flint Township, the diner launched over two years ago and is known for its burgers nestled inside a pretzel bun.
One go-to option is the Twisted Bill, made of ground brisket meat, egg, bacon and cheese on it.
“This is one of our best sellers,” said Nigel Bernat, diner manager at Twisted Burger Diner.
Named after the owner, Bill Etter, the Twisted Bill is made with a homemade pretzel bun and sells for $13.99.
Bernat describes the brisket as “more texture to the meat.”
“The juices of the meat are a little more flavorful,” he said.
Bernat, 39, grew up in Lincoln Park outside of Detroit and started cooking at 17 years old.
An alcohol addiction in his mid-20s knocked him off his path for roughly eight years, which led him to moving to Flint to join a recovery program in 2020.
That’s when Bernat connected with Twisted Burger Diner owners Bill and Tina Etter, which offered him a job opportunity.
“You see the news of how many people are dying of car crashes from drinking, and I’m proud to say I’m a success story,” Bernat said, who has been sober for 10 years. “Coming in here is a positive environment and that’s what we advocate for. Have a good time and leave all the troubles of life outside the door.”
Twisted Burger Diner originally started as one food truck, and along with the diner, has expanded to an additional truck that hosts at events.
“We’re going in the right direction,” Bernat said.
Everything at Twisted Burger Diner is homemade, including the desserts and full vegan options.
When customers walk in, not only will they meet the success story behind the counter, but can take a bite out of the Twisted Bill.
“Come here, grab a burger, listen to some music and have a good feeling,” Bernat said.
Business hours are Tuesday-Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. A full view of the menu can be seen here.
