“(Dine Out to Donate is) on the calendar for Oct. 4,” said Deborah Laine, the foundation’s executive director. “We have nearly 50 restaurants participating, and once again we will have our school competition where the schools with the most participation will get cash prizes.”
This year, each school with the highest participation based on enrollment at the elementary, intermediate and high school levels will receive $750. Second-place finishers will walk away with $250.
Participating restaurants, which include Red River Cantina, Toasted Yolk Cafe and specific locations for Chick-fil-A, Raising Cane’s and McDonald’s, can be found at https://bityl.co/8dHB.
The event has proven popular over the years.
“We’ve always had great participation. Even last year when COVID made things so difficult, we had great restaurant turnout,” Laine said.
Last year, the foundation took in $17,000 from the event.

The way Dine Out to Donate works is simple. Participants eat at one of the participating restaurants and then the restaurant donates a portion of proceeds to the foundation.
Dine Out to Donate is the first of several fundraising events planned for the 2021-2022 school year, Laine said.
“Our annual awards dinner is Nov. 11 and we’ll have seven honorees,” she said. “Our theme, because it’s on Veterans Day, is ‘Brave Stars/Brave Hearts.’”
The honorees that night will include CCISD alumni and members of the community.
Feb. 1 will see the foundation’s annual kickoff luncheon and then in June, the ever-popular Topgolf tournament will also return.
“Topgolf was huge,” Laine said. “We sold that event out in every aspect and went $10,000 over our goal, and we raised about $45,000.”
Hundreds of thousands of dollars raised for programs
Funds raised at the various events help support a variety of Clear Creek ISD initiatives and programs.
“It varies from year to year, but in programs, we look (to give out) around $375,000 and then we look to find $150,000 to $200,000 for special initiatives,” Laine said.
One of those initiatives is “The Leader in Me.”
“It’s a leadership program (that) we rolled out about five years ago, and it is in 14 of our schools,” Laine said. “The kids learn how to goal-set, they learn time management skills and conflict resolution. It’s across the campus and across all subjects. They learn success habits that carry over into their lifestyles at home and into their future lives.”
Wetlands project planned at Clear Falls High
Another project will transform part of the district’s Education Village.
“We are funding a wetlands project at Clear Falls High School,” Laine said “It’s a project where they are taking their retention ponds and turning them into wetlands. Clear Falls’ aquatic science department will be building that, and they’ll be including intermediate and elementary students, teaching them environmental education.”
One if the more creative programs is Biking While Reading, which is exactly what it sounds like. Students mount up on stationary bikes and read while pedaling.
“It’s bringing physical education (together) with literacy; so it’s really combining two subjects,” Laine said. “In a typical classroom, students read at their desks, but at Bayside Intermediate (School), they’ll be on their bikes.”
